DONATIONS
Donations are always appreciated. It is through the generosity of our membership and the general public that the school's historical maritime collection has grown. The following is a list of some of the items we would gladly accept:
- Name boards, sailing boards, builders plates
- Ship's wheels, compasses, telegraphs
- Portholes, liferings, lights, flags
- Ship tableware, linen, etc. with company insignia
- Maritime pictures, posters, prints, etc. - both color and b&w
- Old tools and equipment
- Ship models
- Anything from 9 Light Street, Southern Hotel, or Kirkland Hall Junior College
- Calhoon School cadet yearbooks, or the student newspaper The Scuttlebutt
- Memorabilia from MEBA conventions - buttons, pins, ribbons, photos, etc.
Unfortunately, not all items donated to the school are usable. Books that are non-maritime related or are duplicates may not be added to our collection. Some books are relocated to the reading area in the dormitory, while others are given away.
All donated items are marked with the donor's name in an appropriate manner. A database of all items is maintained.
An alternative to donating is loaning. Memorabilia can be loaned to the school for either a set or indefinite period of time. We have several items that are currently on loan to the school, with the understanding that should the owner wish to have the item back all he/she has to do is call.
