MEBA MERCHANT MARINE MEMORIAL FOUNDATION
The MEBA Merchant Marine Memorial Foundation's mission is to support a Memorial that pays tribute to fallen seafarers, their friends and families, and the maritime industry as a whole. This Memorial will provide an opportunity to honor the courageous men and women who form the heritage of the United States Merchant Marine.
In February 2000, the old school at 9 Light Street in Baltimore, MD was torn down. Members of the Calhoon Alumni Association went to the site and gathered bricks and granite for use in both the Roy Luebbe Center and the Merchant Marine Memorial. The next major addition to the memorial arrived in early April 2002 when Lipps Propeller donated a 23-ton prop. A formal groundbreaking ceremony was held on October 22, 2003. During 2004 the Maritime Administration helped CMES secure the third addition of artifacts with a gift of two massive five-ton anchors with chain as well as several other ship items to be included in the Memorial.
The MEBA Merchant Marine Memorial was officially dedicated on October 19, 2005.
