Online Courses
This 13-lesson course will cover emergency response and resource management knowledge and skills that are necessary to operate efficiently and safely during an emergency in the marine environment. It will also provide the student with sufficient instruction in human behavior and risk assessment procedures to enable them to determine correct initial actions, training requirements, and interagency interfacing that may be required to initiate and operate in a unified situation.
Prerequisites: None
Special Requirements: Basic computer skills are needed to handle the requirements of an online learning environment.
USCG Approval: Any applicant who has successfully completed this course will satisfy the Crisis Management & Human Behavior training requirements of Table V/2 and Paragraph 5 of Sections A-V/2 and A-V/3 of the STCW Code for Ro-Ro Passenger Ships and Passenger Ships Other Than Ro-Ro Passenger Ships; AND the Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity training requirements of Paragraph 4 of Section A-V/2 of the STCW Code for Ro-Ro Passenger Ships; AND the Passenger Safety training requirements of Paragraph 4 of Section A-V/3 of the STCW Code for Passenger Ships Other Than Ro-Ro Passenger Ships.

TIMEFRAME FOR COURSEWORK: While our classes are scheduled in specific increments, students will work at their own pace. Working within the time frame of the course, students are free to use the entire time allotted if needed, or to complete the coursework more quickly. Though students will work at their own pace, they are expected to complete all assignments and to interact with the instructor. There will be live student/instructor interaction available every weekday of the course. Additional course-specific information will be sent to students upon successful registration into a class. Students may register for more than one class in the same time period - however, please remember that a separate application form is needed for each class. More detailed information is available on the admissions pages for online courses. FINAL EXAM: All students taking CMES online courses are required to take the final exam at a Prometric Testing Center. After all coursework is completed, the student will be provided with the necessary information and authorization to schedule the final exam at a Prometric office location that is convenient to him or her.

This 4-lesson course is designed to educate the mariner in Crowd Management and Safety Training for Personnel providing direct services to passengers in passenger spaces for Ro-Ro passenger ships and passenger ships other than Ro-Ro passenger ships. This prepares the mariner with passenger control responsibilities to be better prepared to carry out their duties in a safe and efficient manner. The course topics include methods of communication, passenger response to stress, and dealing with unruly people.

USCG Approval: Any applicant who has successfully completed the Crowd Management Online course will satisfy the Crowd Management training requirements of Paragraph 1 of Section A-V/2 of the STCW Code for Ro-Ro Passenger Vessels and Paragraph 1 of Section A-V/3 of the STCW Code for Passenger Ships Other Than Ro-Ro Passenger Vessels; AND the Safety Training requirements of Paragraphs 3 and 4 of Section A-V/2 of the STCW Code for Ro-Ro Passenger Vessels and Paragraphs 3 and 4 of Section A-V/3 of the STCW Code for Passenger Ships Other Than Ro-Ro Passenger Vessels.

This is a course designed for Deck Officers to practice the skills needed to successfully complete the practical radar examination requirements for Radar Observer (Unlimited: Renewal).
All students are required to set the final exam at either a Prometric Testing Center within the United States or at the Calhoon MEBA Engineering School.

Special Requirements: Basic computer skills are needed to handle the requirements of an online learning environment.
USCG Approval: Any applicant who has successfully completed the Radar Observer Recertification Online course will satisfy the requirements of 46 CFR 11.480(d) for renewal of any Radar Observer endorsement.

All students are required to set the final exam at either a Prometric Testing Center within the United States or at the Calhoon MEBA Engineering School.

Special Requirements: Basic computer skills are needed to handle the requirements of an online learning environment.
USCG Approval: Any applicant who has successfully completed the Visual Communications (Flashing Light) Online course will satisfy the practical signaling examination requirements (flashing light) of 46 CFR 11.401(h) if presented within one year of the completion of training; AND will be considered to have successfully demonstrated the equivalent of assessment OICNW-4-1A from the National Assessment Guidelines for Table A-II/1 of the STCW Code, as amended. Applicants who have successfully completed this course need not present a completed "Control Sheet" for this assessment in application for STCW certification.
