HORIZON LINES TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  1. CHIEF ENGINEER
    1. Advanced Fire Fighting
      • Any USCG approved Advanced Fire Fighting course
    2. Hazardous Materials Technician
      • Proficiency test
      • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system
    3. Container Refrigeration
      • Proficiency test
    4. Maximo Training
      • Maximo evening course taken at the school
      • Proficiency test for company specific computer program
      • MEBA School Ship's Management Course where Maximo was taught
      • MEBA School Basic Computers Course where Maximo was taught
      • MEBA School Computer Applications Course taken after October 15, 2004
    5. Maritime Security Officer
      • MEBA School Vessel Security Officer Course
  2. FIRST ASSISTANT ENGINEER
    1. Advanced Fire Fighting
      • Any USCG approved Advanced Fire Fighting course
    2. Hazardous Materials Technician
      • Proficiency test
      • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system
    3. Refrigeration
      • Proficiency test
      • MEBA School Container Refrigeration Course
    4. Maximo Training
      • Maximo evening course taken at the school
      • Proficiency test for company specific computer program
      • MEBA School Ship's Management Course where Maximo was taught
      • MEBA School Basic Computers Course where Maximo was taught
      • MEBA School Computer Applications Course taken after October 15, 2004
    5. Maritime Security Officer
      • MEBA School Vessel Security Officer Course
    6. Digital Electronics
      • 4 Week MEBA School Industrial Electronics Course
      • Digital Electronics proficiency test
      • Industrial Electronics proficiency test
      • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system
    7. Programmable Logic Controllers (Steam Vessels Only)
      • Proficieny test

    NOTE: If you complete all the requirements for First Assistant Engineer expect Programmable Logic Controllers you will be issued a certification for First Engineer that will be good for Motor vessels only.

  3. SECOND ASSISTANT ENGINEER
    1. Advanced Fire Fighting
      • Any USCG approved Advanced Fire Fighting course
    2. Hazardous Materials Technician
      • Proficiency test
      • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system
    3. Analog Electronics
      • 4 Week MEBA School Industrial Electronics Course
      • Analog Electronics proficiency test
      • Industrial Electronics proficiency test
      • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system
    4. Instrumentation
      • Proficiency test
      • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system
  4. THIRD ASSISTANT ENGINEER
    1. Advanced Fire Fighting
      • Any USCG approved Advanced Fire Fighting course
    2. Hazardous Materials Technician
      • Proficiency test
      • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system
    3. Electrical Troubleshooting
      • Proficiency test
      • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system
    4. Welding
      • Proficiency test
      • Previous completion of this requirement in the old SeaLand system
    5. Applied Diesels (Motor Vessels Only)
      • Proficiency test
      • 6 week MEBA School Diesel Engineering Course
      • 4 week MEBA School Medium Speed Diesel Course

NOTE: If you complete all the requirements for Third Assistant Engineer except Applied Diesels, you will be issued a certification for Third Engineer that will be good for Steam vessels only.
